Our Chairman - A Short Biography

Our Chairman - A Short Biography

Robin Russell has been Chairman of the Gartnavel Diabetic Patients Group for  a considerable number of years, keeping everyone on the committee on their toes and ensuring that we continue to have a varied annual programme of informative meetings.

Robin has been Type 1 Diabetic since his mid thirties, some 50 plus years and has not let his diabetes hold him back from anything. Outwith the Patients Group Robin has been an active member of the Scout Association (for longer than he has  been diabetic), and as such undertook many adventurous activities.

Some of his hobbies and talents might surprise you. A keen archer, giving tuition to many Scouts and Cubs over the years, typesetting and printing many tickets and invitations on his own portable printing press,  a philatelist (stamp collector to you or me) with his prime interest being in British First Day Covers and he is also  an avid collector of die-cast models of transport. He also sings in an inter-generational choir through the local Active Seniors Group.

Robin who along with his wife Moira is trained as an assessor with Diabetes Scotland, attends many frequent Diabetes Scotland Roadshows attempting to bring awareness of Diabetes and diabetes care to those who may not be aware that they have it.
